Read This If You’re Considering Mole Removal
You may be considering mole removal for a number of reasons, whether your motivations are for cosmetic purposes or you are worried that a mole may be cancerous, it is never too early to book an appointment. At Cedars Dermatology we offer a number of treatments that allow us to safely assess and remove a mole if necessary. On occasion the appearance of a mole changes over time, this can be a tell-tale sign that something dubious may be going on underneath the skins surface. For example, a mole may increase in size, the outline may become notched or the mole may change in colour. If you notice any of these changes you must schedule an appointment to see your dermatologist as soon possible. Cedars Dermatology in London will be able to help you decide whether mole removal is the right treatment for you.
How can we help?
An expert dermatologist may first assess the condition of your moles with a service named ‘Mole Mapping’. This enables us to take pictures of your moles and monitor their changes over time. We may also choose to use Confocal Microscopy, a laser assisted telescope to evaluate the appearance of a mole deep within the skin. Should we detect any signs of skin cancer or are concerned about its possible development, we may also decide to remove the mole using minor surgery or a technique called Mohs micrographic surgery. An expert dermatologist will advise which treatment you require during your consultation.
Is mole removal okay for cosmetic purposes?
Many of our clients choose to have a mole removed as they are unhappy with its appearance. It may bother you due to its placement or size which may lead you to feel embarrassed and self-conscious. A mole may even rub on clothing leading to discomfort when moving. These are all perfectly acceptable reasons to consider mole removal and the expert team at Cedars Dermatology will be happy to assist you on your journey to feeling confident again. We will also assess whether there is anything potentially harmful about the mole to give you peace of mind. Again, the mole removal procedure may involve a quick and painless minor surgery.
What aftercare is required of mole removal?
The aftercare needed following your mole removal procedure depends on the size, shape and location of the mole being removed. The type of treatment used will also affect how quickly the localised site heals. There may also be further precautions that should be taken to aid in the healing process. For a standard minor surgery however, you could expect to have fully healed within three weeks post treatment. Your dermatologist will advise you how best to care for your skin to prevent scarring and decrease healing time. This will of course be outlined prior to your treatment.
