It’s hailed as one of the most effective anti-ageing skin treatments, but how much do you actually know about chemical peels? It can help reduce lines and wrinkles, eliminate sun damage and clear up a myriad of skin problems. But knowing which skin peel to choose is key so it may be bespoke to your skin concerns. That’s why we invite you to have a consultation with our skin practitioner, before any treatment takes place.
We can help you look refreshed and rejuvenated with a clearer skin tone and texture, or simply cheer up dull skin. Let’s take a look at how the treatment works, as well as the sort of results you can expect to achieve.
A chemical peel involves peel solution being applied to a targeted area of your skin by one of our experienced practitioners. Ones done it will remain on the target ares for 3-5 minutes. The peel will then be washed away and the area cleansed with a soothing cream. The peel solution contains a variety of different acids. A mixture will be selected for you on the basis of they are most relevant to your specific skin concern.
What this acid based peel solution does is force the skin tissue, to which it was applied, to peel away. The peeling takes place 7-10 days later. You’ll feel the skin growing tighter beforehand, then when the forced exfoliation starts. This is when you’ll begin to see the pink, fresh, new, unblemished skin tissue underneath. Once this new tissue becomes the new surface tissue and the pinkness fades, your skin will be less wrinkled, less blemished and without its former lesions.
There are three levels of chemical peel. The mild ones are great for providing a thorough facial-style healthy glow and removing very mild skin issues, such as non-severe acne. For wrinkles, enlarged pores, acne scars, melasma and age spots, a medium peel may be more suitable. Stronger acids are involved and the area will be more tingly afterwards. With all treatments, you will need to adhere to the aftercare advice given. This will involve you using sun screen and avoiding pulling on the skin. It’s best to let it peel away naturally.
A stronger peel is also possible and this deals specifically with very deep wrinkles and creases, but the procedure is more intense and involves sedation, as well as monitoring. Most of these deep peels have been replaced with laser skin therapy, but in order to find out which treatment is going to best correct your individual concerns, it’s important to make that consultation appointment.
We look forward to meeting you and helping you transform your face by introducing clearer, younger-looking skin. Your friends may well comment that you look ‘rested.’ A major boost to the body confidence is a huge part of the reason why our clients come and see us time and time again.
