Medical Dermatology

This refers to skin, hair and nail conditions, which cause problems other than their cosmetic appearance. These may be treated by creams, tablets, injections, ultraviolet light therapy or a combination of the above. All our consultants are trained in medical dermatology. There are more diagnoses in dermatology than any other specialty (over 2000).  Making the right diagnosis is crucial to any treatment. This can often be done by consultant dermatologists without tests based on their experience and training. However sometimes a skin biopsy or other investigations are required

A few of the skin conditions we see and treat in medical dermatology include:

  • Acne
  • Alopecia
  • Autoimmune diseases (bullous pemphigoid, pemphigus, epidermolysis bullosa acquisita, and others)
  • Contact allergies
  • Eczema
  • Nail diseases
  • Psoriasis
  • Rosacea
  • Stevens-Johnson Syndrome / Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis
  • Transplant Dermatology
  • Warts
