Cosmetic Dermatology

Cosmetic dermatology is the branch of dermatology concerned with diagnosing, treating, and preventing skin problems that affect your appearance. They may have nothing to do with your physical health but they are having a deep impact on the way you feel about yourself. If your self-esteem is suffering because of the way your skin looks, we can help.

Whether you are concerned about the impact of ageing, wrinkles and lines, skin discolouration, or scarring, our experts can offer a range of safe and effective treatments.

We can help you overcome your skin problems and achieve a look that will boost your confidence and make you feel more comfortable with your appearance.

At Cedars we offer a wide range of cosmetic dermatology treatments. These include:

  • Creams: these include prescription-only creams for skin conditions such as acne and rosacea.
  • Chemical peels: We use chemicals to gently remove the top few layers of skin on your face. This stimulates the lower layers of skin to regenerate and rejuvenate, minimizing the appearance of fine lines and scars and refreshing your complexion.
  • Facial treatments: Dermatology treatments can be performed on skin anywhere on the body. Facial treatments need to be planned and performed with particular care as the skin can be more sensitive and the results are more obvious.
  • Treatment for hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating): this is a relatively rare problem but can be acutely embarrassing. We have a range of treatments that can control sweat production, including prescription-only anti-perspirants, Botox treatments and more complex surgery.
  • Injection treatments such as Botox: these are used to treat the facial lines and creases that appear with ageing. Botox helps to relax the facial muscles so that skin is not pulled into deep furrows. The smoothing out of wrinkles and lines lasts four to six months and a programme of repeat treatments will help keep your skin looking fresh and more youthful.
  • Dermal fillers: Substances that plump out the skin are injected at well-chosen sites to combat age-related thinning of the lips and reduction in skin collagen.
  • Laser treatments: we use a variety of different lasers and techniques to treat many different conditions, including:
    • Acne
    • Birthmarks
    • Excess hair
    • Medical conditions such as psoriasis in selected cases
    • Fungal nail infections
    • Rare genetic conditions
    • Skin pigmentation
    • Skin blemishes and scarring
    • Rosacea
    • Deep skin scars including acne, post surgical and keloid scars
    • Skin tightening
    • Spider nevi
    • Unwanted tattoos
  • Mole removal: We offer a full mole mapping and checking service and moles can be removed for cosmetic or medical reasons. A simple mole removal may be required if a mole is constantly rubbed by clothing. A mole that is a suspected skin cancer is removed using a technique called Mohs micrographic surgery.
  • Microdermabrasion: Very fine particles are moved at speed over the surface of the skin, removing dead skin cells and rejuvenating the skin.
  • Microneedling: This technique has similar effects to microdermabrasion but uses a different method to stimulate the skin. As the name suggests, a series of tiny needles are used to stimulate the skin, boosting circulation and collagen production to regenerate the skin from within.
  • Scar treatments such as subcision: For particularly deep scars we can offer minor surgery such as subcision to reduce the appearance of the scar. Subcision involves inserting needles beneath the skin to release the tags that tether scar tissue, allowing the surface of the skin to look smooth and clear once more.
  • Thread vein treatment (facial only): this specialized treatment applies heat from a highly targeted laser to individual thread veins, causing them to collapse and become far less visible.
